Making My Own (gluten-free) Bread

I want to start making my own bread. I know it's extra work, but I feel like I have better control over what goes in my family's bellies if I start making everything from scratch! As a gift my mother-in-law gave me some bread mix boxes and this amazing bread slicer. Okay, here we go! First attempt on making my own bread:

IT TAKES FOREVER! lol You mix, you cover and let rise for 30 minutes. You transfer to pan, cover, and let rise for 20-40 minutes. Then you bake for 50 minutes. It is not hard, just time consuming. I didn't LOVE this type of bread. The loaf was super heavy and I am a fan of UDI's bread which is light weight, so I want to find a recipe and try again this time from scratch. Do you have any favorite bread recipes? Please share! ;)
The quest continues.... I think I also may want to invest in a bread maker. Any suggestions?

YUM!!! I love fresh homemade bread! I highly suggest getting a bread maker...I've had one for years and absolutely LOVE it!! I often get the ready boxed bread (just add water and yeast) and the maker does all of the work! So easy and the house smells so yummy!! :))

Mmmm, I love any kind of homemade bread! When I was younger my mom had a breadmaker that she used every now and then. Very easy, and like Christy said, it always smelled SO GOOD! I think it's awesome that you want to make your own bread from scratch. I hope you find a great recipe that works for you!

I tweaked my recipe and used it in my gluten free bread machine. Did you use the oil or the butter? It makes a difference. My bread didn't turn out like that picture because I used the machine. I used another egg for the bread machine. We all loved it. Udis is good too. But the slices are so small and filled with calories. it's a trade off and everyone's taste is different. I still think the bread looks good. I cut my slices thin too. But if I want something quick, Udis is the way to go. Ever try Pamela's. I use that one. I put herbs like Italian seasonings and cheese. My family likes it. Thanks for the review. I never did use the oven method.

Wow I would never attempt to make my own bread! Looks yummy although you didn't' love it. I have heard a bread maker does wonders though :) I don't have the patience!

I don't even know what gluten means, so that prolly means it's something healthy. :p
