Summer Staples

 Yesterday over on the Sisters Marie blog, I talked about stocking up on the basics at Forever 21. I realize I am too old to shop at this store, but snagging some staples for between $10-$20 each seems timeless to me! 

This dress is a perfect example of something that can be worn year round depending on how you layer it. I love the Y-back detail and with a price tag of $15.90, I just could not pass it up. 

This day I layered on the silver and turquoise jewelry, neutral shoes & bag, and a great top that I wore as a jacket of sort. We obviously have to talk about this bra. I found it on Easy (although the sellers store is currently closed) for $20 and I have worn it non-stop the past few months. It's more cozy then wearing a sports bra and then as an added plus, it makes all my tops and dresses cuter. Pretty sure I'm going to find it in a few more colors and live in them this year!

It's a Beautiful Day!

I love weekends that are filled with nothing other then family time. These don't happen often, so when they do we try to take full advantage of them. The four of us love to relax and just have fun together! On weekends like this, my kids always want to go for bike rides and honestly, so do the hubby and I. What's not to love about being outdoors on a sunny day?

On this beautiful Spring day, I wore what I like to call very basic everyday mom wear. ;) 

Floral print shorts, basic tee, Chucks, and a backpack was the perfect outfit for riding around with my family. I have to say, this backpack is amazing. I was able to store my car keys, phone, snacks for the kids, and sunblock all on my back while I rode around. Are you really ever too old to wear a backpack? I think not!

Not exactly sure why, I'm guessing the heart print, but I always get that Cheap Trick song (I want you to want me) in my head when I wear this blouse. I dare you not to sing it all day long now! ;) 

Fat dutch braids wrapped into a bun in the back, light wash denim, and beautiful Rocksbox jewelry finished this super casual everyday look. I was at the school most of he morning and afternoon this day then took the kids to meet the hubby for dinner and a movie. Jeans and a cute blouse are perfect everyday spring wear, no?

Blue Jean Baby

Over the weekend we celebrated Lake House Lyn's b-day by surprising her with a family photo shoot followed by a lunch out. Since there were 8 of us, we decided to go with the colors blue, khaki, and white and no be too matchy matchy. 

In the end, my son wore khaki shorts with a navy sweater, my husband wore khaki pants with a navy polo, and my daughter was in a white dress with navy and pink stripes. 

To pair off of them, I went with this navy maxi dress. It tied in the stripes on my daughters dress with my striped bottom and the color block shoes. To finish my look off I added a jean jacket and Rocksbox jewelry.

Dreaming of Coachella

 

Attending Coachella in California is on my bucket list. Music is a very big part of my life and I love going to music festivals with my husband.  

The idea of being outside with palm trees around you while you listen to amazing music, just seems like something I want to experience at least once in my life. Then as an added bonus when you look around everyone just so happens to dress like the current year is 1969! Oh yes, one day I will be there Coachella, one day. And my outfits are going to make me so happy! lol

Until then I'll enjoy Chicago's own Lollapalooza every couple of years when the line up is sick. But I digress. 

My Instagram feed is filling up with tons of photos from Coachella 2015 so I decided to show a look I would totally wear the second half of the day. (Yes, I'd have different night outfits!) 

This romper is the best! The floral detail, the wide sleeves, the tie back, I have to admit I'm totally obsessed! Throw on some boho gold jewelry, wool hat, fringe bag, bright lip, and a great wood wedge and I'm festival ready.

My Carrie Bradshaw Moment

Last week I shared a post about shooting for the Spring issue for Lake & Country Magazine. During our group shoot, I wore all cream and felt very Carrie Bradshaw like in my tulle skirt! It seemed like the right thing to do to add nude heels, gold jewelry, and a head chain. I may have been channeling Carrie Bradshaw, but I'm still me! ;)
