Stripes & Flowers

Is there anything more chic then the color combo of black and red? I think not! I am so in love with this beautiful shift dress from J.Jill. The single pocket is the cutest, and it was so easy to style. Plus this dress is super roomy so it is perfect to take you from day to night, and literally anything in-between.

I am dying over this bag. Seriously pick it up soon as it will no doubt sell out. I mean, the red embroidery? GORG! This is so one of those items that you know your daughter will want to borrow one day. It's just cool, no? I had to play off the red in the bag with my shoes and bright red lip. In the end I added my faux leather jacket and some gold jewelry and was good to go!

Tove Lo at House of Blues Chicago

My husband recently planned a night out in Chicago to celebrate all of the wonderful events we have had going on the past two months. We celebrated our 9 year anniversary, Valentine's Day, his birthday (which was last week), and my birthday (which actually is today!). All of these special days fell on weekdays, so this was our first chance at getting a night away with just the two of us. We stayed at Hotel Chicago Downtown, Autograph Collection, which is across the parking lot from the House of Blues. After check in, we had a quick drink in the lobby then headed over to the Foundation Room for dinner and more drinks before the show.

I decided to wear this beautiful maxi dress Kaitlyn lent me. It's from Pink Blush, which is a website that sells maternity and non maternity clothing, but I think this is actually a maternity dress! ;) I am not pregnant, but the dress was gorgeous and honestly the front wasn't longer or anything so I felt like I could pull it off without anyone thinking anything. I have to say, I got TONS of compliments in it! On top of that it was so comfortable, I totally picked the perfect outfit for the night!

After dinner, we headed to our Opera Box to check out Tove Lo. You guys, she was amazing! It was so fun seeing a pop show in such a beautiful venue. She sounded amazing live and it was a very women empowering show. The lights all over the stage were so fun to watch, you can tell she is a performer, but when it came down to it, her vocals were really so strong. I love a chick that can rock out but back that up with pure talent!

Yeah, I'm still on my all blue kick, and by still on this kick I mean obsessing over this combo for years now. ;) I can't get enough of blue hues, mixing different shades of blue or even layering the same shade, it's all amazing to me! When I recently picked up this beautiful cape, I knew exactly how I wanted to style it the first time around.

I pulled navy in with the fringe bag and boots and kept the blues cohesive in my top and jeans. I just had to make it a bit retro by pairing my chambray top with these great high-waist, button front, flare jeans. To finish off the outfit, I added my favorite matte pink lip color. In the end I loved wearing this outfit. It's literally perfect for any outing, day or night. That my friends is what I call an outfit win!

Workout Wednesday: Hitting the Gym

 photo fitness-8_zpsownrscy7.jpg

As I shared in my last "Workout Wednesday" post, I really enjoy mixing up my workouts. I love cardio and abs, but getting weights in is something I have to push myself to do. Hands-down my favorite cardio machine is the stair stepper (and then the elliptical machine is my second favorite). The stairs is the machine I always start out at and I love that you don't just have to walk at he same speed facing forward the entire time. I usually stay on the climber for about 30 minutes, but I do remember the days when I thought 5 minutes was long on that thing! ;)

I start out at facing forward going single steps for the fist 5-10 minutes, slowly increasing speed. Then the fun begins. I alternate sides stepping over my top foot for at least three minutes on each side. Next up is my personal favorites, doubles (photo shown below). To make this even more fun, when walking up ever second stair, I bring my foot that is about to take the next step behind me in almost an arabesque position. This gives you a great behind stretch before working those thigh muscles with each forward motion.

Next up, it's time for some squats and weights. For me, I prefer low weight with lots of reps (or no weight at all when I'm doing my squats and/or lunges). I generally do x4 twenty-rep-sets for each exercise, with a short rest in-between.  If it's arms day, I enjoy working with the kettle ball and free weights. On legs day, I use the the mat to do my squats and lunges and the machines for different inner and outer thigh exercises.

Everyday is abs day for me. I think it is very important to have a strong core, plus on a superficial level I want a flat stomach, summer is just around the corner. Then there's the fact that I am almost 38 and have had two children. It is important to me to stay strong and in shape so I can live long and enjoy my family. That really is it for me! Stay healthy so I can do better at taking care of mine.

If I'm not at the gym, I'm doing planks and sit-ups at home. If I am at the gym, I love mixing up tuck and pike position when using the equiptment below. And if I can stand it, I'll also go get in some time with a medicine ball and/or large exercise ball.

Red, Red Wine

 photo overalls-21_zpswg44ejvy.jpg photo overalls-23_zpsbvo8sb3o.jpg photo overalls-28_zpstyaiwjgl.jpg

I'm all about the red tones lately. Maybe it has something to do with Valentine's Day or maybe I'm missing the colors of Fall. Either way, this new pomegranate colored jacket from J.Jill is giving me all the feels! I recently had my flare overalls altered as the last time I styled them I had to wear six inch heels. I love me some heels, but I wanted these overalls to be more for everyday wear, so I had three inches removed from the bottom. I couldn't be more happy with the end result!

On this day I styled my new, shorter overalls with a cream turtleneck, red boots, red jacket, oxblood clutch, and a bold red lip. The look is perfect for everyday or even a casual Valentines date out. I also added a few pops of teal and gold in the accessories. It's all about the details.
