There shorts were a DIY of mine. I was super determined while making these. They use to be pants, I cut them to shorts, tore up the bottom, bleached them, and then dip dyed the colors. The process was pretty long but worth the end result. The shorts were orginally a thrift item of mine I got bored with, the corset top is thrifted as well. My mesh peep toe heels are Chinese Laundry

Guest Post: Becks from [oomph.]

hi everyone! i'm becks, the blogger behind [oomph.]...just
filling in for the day. lisa and i share a love for maxi
dreses and skirts, so i thought it would be fitting to wear
one here. this skirt has all the qualities i look for in a
maxi...super long, lightweight, and comfy. not to mention,
it's leopard. bonus! the last time i wore this skirt, i
dressed it down with a denim shirt. this time, i dressed it
up with a simple, long-sleeved black shirt and boots. then,
i topped it off with even more leopard with my belt.

sending lisa tons of well wishes for a speedy recovery.
thanks for having me!

Good morning! I am so excited to be here on Stilettos & Diaper Bags; one of my favorite blogs! As an interior decorator, I like to find inspiration in the most unlikely of places and I like to translate that into fantastic spaces! For my guest post, I'm looking to Lisa for inspiration :]

Here's one of my favorite looks from my pretty friend! I love her in this gorgeous orange Kristin Hassan number. It looks so amazing with her hazel eyes!

and here's the room I based around it:

SADB Orange Inspiration

Bold bedding grounded by neutral colored pieces. A little ethnic touch with the rug and lots of shiny surfaces. Masculine dark browns and solid furniture pieces are set off with feminine curves, arches and a stunning starburst mirror :]

Let's look at another one!

I LOVE this dress on Lisa! The head to toe black is elegant & dramatic, but the cutouts are young & fun! And as a mama of two (or anyone for that matter) she looks fantastic in it! Anchored with a neutral shoe and accessorized with some boho jewels, this look is begging to be transformed into a room! [maybe that's just me hearing the begging?] ;]

I'm thinking a dining room:

SADB Black Inspiration

Grounded by a neutral rug, the big black dining room table is the statement piece of the room. The chairs at the head & end of the table are elegant and sophisticated, the flanking chairs have whimsical & light cutouts. The chandelier is the jewel in the crown and lights up the accessories around the room, including the oh-so-necessary bar cart! :]

I'm feeling inspired to do one more, how about you? My last inspiration picture is from way back when aka the second month of Lisa's blog, February 2010, because I love this outfit! She looks adorable, but it also provides a great color palette to build off of and the young, hip style is perfect for a living room, don't you think so?! Me too! :]

And in room form:

SADB Yellow&Gray Inspiration

I love this one! There is pattern & texture. It is light & bright, but sophisticated and balanced. I love that the 2 sofas aren't identical. It all works because the color palette is simple but refined. I think I could relax and hang out in this room, no problem!

Hope you enjoyed my little project! "Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working" - Pablo Picasso. Inspiration is all around; never stop looking for it, no matter where you are or what you are looking at :]

Guest Post: Kenzi from The Cardigan Queen

Hi! Kenzi here from The Cardigan Queen. I’m helping out over here while Lisa’s recovering from her surgery. (Get well soon, Lisa!) I’m actually a little nervous about this! Because this is my very first guest post ever!! It’s kind of a big deal to me! Okay, deeeep breaths!
Another first for me is these outfit photos. (You see, my blog is still a baby blog. It’s only been up and running for a few months now.) So far, my outfit posts have been right in the vicinity of my lil ol’ apartment when I take them myself. This time I actually ventured outside of my comfort zone and went scoping out some places. I think they turned out alright. It was getting kind of windy and dark as I was taking them. It’s getting ready to storm. The wind kept blowing my hair & those fluttery sleeves in my face! But I got a few good pictures in any way! I think I was creepin’ out the kids riding their bikes around so I decided it was time to pack up & head home.

Don’t you hate it when you have a great outfit in mind and you’re so excited to try wear it, and then when you go to try it on its just…. Ehhh. That happened to me today. Since I’m posting on Lisa’s blog I was going to wear this adorable teal knit tank dress from Express that I snagged right out of her closet. I even had a few different ideas in mind how to style it. I had a green & blue tye-dye tank to go over it. Nope. I had a scarf I was going to use as a head band or belt. Nope & Nope. (the scarf was at my mom’s) Leggings underneath. Nope.
Nothing was working for me. Nothing against the dress, because it’s simple & classic & I love it. The styling Gods were just not on my side today. So plan “B”. I wore this outfit a couple weeks ago to the bf’s family dinner. His grandparents were in town visiting from Belgium. They don’t speak English, so I at least had to look nice right? Actually, his grandfather speaks some but his accent is so thick I can barely understand him. Well, we went to a nice Italian restaurant. It was a nice evening out. I bought these denim leggings specifically for the occasion. And I never thought you’d see the day where my booty was in some “jeggings” (I hate that word) . But I actually am in love with them! Super comfy!
Well, I’m glad Lisa let me help out!! Leave her lots of love while she’s gone!!
Now that you’ve all “listened” to my mindless chatter, I’m heading back over to the home station. Stop by & say hello if you’d like.

Guest Post: Elizabeth from Law Mama

Nursing in Style

Hi SADB readers! My name's Elizabeth and I blog over at Law Mama about fashion, life and whatever else strikes my fancy. While Lisa's recovering from surgery I offered to guest blog for her. I thought I'd blog about something near and dear to me: remaining stylish while breastfeeding.

I went through a lot of trial and error figuring out what to wear while breastfeeding. When my son, Zeke, was first born, I was just struggling to survive and mostly wore open button up pajama tops and cheap Target nursing bras. So glamorous. Then I started venturing into nursing tops and I have to say, I was less than impressed. They tend to fit terribly and be about as unflattering as possible -- which for a new mom still trying to lose the baby weight was pretty depressing.

Eventually I figured out that it was much easier to just wear normal clothes that could work with breastfeeding. The most natural cut for that is the deep v-neck - and if you wear a nursing tank top underneath, you don't need to worry too much about showing off all that suddenly massive cleavage (seriously, I went from a small B-cup to a full D-cup. A big change for me!). A deep v-neck in a dress makes a dress so much more wearable, and you can't go wrong with a great deep-V tee shirt. You can wear it with everything!

Other great pieces are button up shirts (hello, access to the girls!), and a pretty, lightweight scarf if you want some privacy. I had a hooter hider that I used for a bit, but as soon as Zeke could express an opinion about it, I had to stop using it. A scarf is a great alternative that can add a little color and style to your outfit too.

And I'm a big fan of those handkerchief hem cardigans which both allow easy access and can allow for some privacy when you're nursing in public. Nursing in public can seem super intimidating at first, but really it's no big deal. I swear, most people would much prefer a quiet nursing baby over a screaming hungry one! I have never had anything negative said to me while nursing out and about, and once you get used to it, it makes leaving the house so easy. You have all the food you need with you, at the perfect temperature, ready when needed!

Finally, I included some great nursing accessories: a nursing necklace for when your kid gets grabby and you'd like to keep your hair from being pulled, and an ERGO baby carrier. When Zeke was littler, I nursing him in that thing all the time. The trick is to loosen the straps so baby's head is level with your boobs, and use the hood to help stabilize their head (and to provide privacy). I nursed that kid all over Disneyland, in grocery stores, at Target... everywhere. All in the ERGO so I didn't have to stop to find a place to sit down. And the ERGO comes in lots of different designs -- I like to think of it as my favorite accessory.

And don't forget a great diaper bag. It continues to be useful well into the toddler years for toting diapers, extra clothes, toys, pacifiers, and a water bottle -- gotta keep hydrated!

So there you have it, some tips and tricks for breastfeeding in style! Hope that helps someone out there struggling with this problem like I did at first!
