New Hair

I decided it was high time for a new look, so for the first time in about a year I went to Mario Ticoci for a cut and color. (I generally get a hair trim every 4 months, but I don't color often). Here are my before shots: Photobucket
I asked for a modern twist on Ombre. I wanted a few shades, not just dark on top and light on bottom. I actually brought this picture with and said "I know I won't look like this (DUH!) but it's a good form of reference of what look I am going for."

After 4 hours, 2 times having it processed, toned, washed and dried I left crying. This is the first time EVER I have been unhappy with Mario Tricoci. They were beyond amazing about it and not only gave me my color for free (which honestly I would have not paid for) but that also competed my hair cut. This is what I had to deal with from Saturday afternoon until Monday when they could fix it:

So yeah, not happy. Yes, that is green your see. And orange, and brush marks that start 2 inches from my roots. Keep in mind, this is the correction of what was first done so you can only imagine my horror when I first looked in the mirror. I do LOVE the cut though. She took 1 inch off the back and put TONS of layers in to make it lighter for me. (It just gets so heavy for my neck!)
I spent 45 mins curling and pinning it back not to look too silly for Easter Sunday and then RAN back to Mario on Monday. After another 2 and 1/2 hours working on me, their head colorist was able to turn it into this:

As you can see from the last photo I have a few weird blond streaks that were supposed to be toned down at the root, but again after 2 and 1/2 hours I was needed back home. She did want me to stay and fix it more, but I was over it.
It's definitely better then the first round and I am much happier now. I will be going back in a few weeks to do more corrections as there are a few harsh lines and again the top needs toner on it.
As I was leaving I was charged full price for color. I was kinda shocked. I had to tip all 3 who did my hair the day of mess up, tip all 3 the day of fix and full price for color. I guess I should be happy they competed my cut, but I just think if you mess up, you pay not me.
Having said that I still LOVE Mario Tricoci. I am such a fan of their spa and my hair girl is the best and I would never switch on them. The colorist though, I think I will now go to the top girl to fix the last few streaks when my hair has some time to recuperate and then just stick to my regular hair color. You can mess with a lot of things people, but my hair is not one of them! ;) She did do wonders though. It's come a long way since Saturday!
**UPDATE I was called on Thursday and apologized to for a miss charge. She had not read my blog, just was going over books and realized I was charged. I was given a credit for the full amount and plan to go get a massage in the next couple of  weeks! I am one happy camper!!!

Wow, I can't believe they made you pay for all of that. But in the end, I love your final color, it's so rich and pretty. I hope after your final visit you'll feel much better about it.

I do love the color that's on it now. It's kind of funny I used that same picture to show my stylist what I wanted. I have super dark hair too so it's hard to do much color and maintain it. I can't tell you exactly how she did it (I'm no cosmotologist) but we do a little bit each time I go.

I get my hair trimmed & thinned every time (its super thick). She will put my natural color to touch up my grays. and then we'll go just a few shades lighter for the highlights. She doesn't start at my roots but it blends nicely. And I love the way it turns out. Each time I go we'll do a slightly different shade and it's really starting to show some great dimension. And it actually looks like natural highlights from last summer that have grown out.

You are one brave soul to show all of that on the blog. It looks great and the new color is beautiful!

I love the cut and the final color is very pretty. It is always so overwhelming when something bad happens like that! I tried to go a little darker a few years ago and was in tears just like you. Luckily my stylist didn't charge when I went back in for the fix. Sorry it was so costly!

They definitely should have covered the cost of the fix! But I really like how it turned out!! Love the red tones!

Hey lovely - I had a bad experience at Mario myself too and mine was just an updo! I brought in multiple pictures of simply what I wanted etc. and it was just a slight updo with a twist (no pun intended). What I got was NOT anything close to the photos etc. and I took everything out when I got to the car. This was also for NYE. I was so disenchanted that I actually contacted their corporate office and explained the situation. They were very apologetic and issued me a gift certificate equal to the cost of my updo for me to use at a later date, and I was technically just out the tip $. It might be worthwhile explaining your story to them so they can also improve their step by step process with their newer colorists etc.

What an ordeal! I can't believe they made you pay to fix it! I do like how it ended up though :)

Yea, I wouldn't have paid for the correction or left a tip. They need to fire that colorist asap!! Or send her somewhere for some training at least.

Sorry you had a sucky experience, sounds like you might want to find another salon. Then again, I'm sure my salon thinks I'm a total b**c* when it comes to my hair...lol. But it looks good hun.

The final color looks great! Can't believe they messed up that bad at first. I would have been freaking out too! :)

Wowsers...what a trial and tribulation all for a new do!
I have to say I have never had a bad hair experience BUT I haven't colored my hair in over 10 years..I used to be blonde, OMG. When I look at pictures now, i can't believe I did that to myself.
I do love how it turned out...just a soft bit of lighter faceframing...but the process to get you there...my goodness lady.
