Chicago ---> Louisville ---> Nashville ---> Birmingham ---> Destin
For spring break this year, three of my four siblings and our families headed to Destin to stay in a large AirBnB property for the week. My husband and I decided we wanted to leave a few days early and take our time as we drive down and have a little southern food tour if you will. We looked at the map and once we knew it would take us 14 hours to get there, we divided the drive into 3 parts. We choose cities to stay in each night, making our travel time about 5 hours per day. First stop, Louisville!
We stayed at Aloft hotel in downtown Louisville and soon after headed to dinner at Rye. You guys, this place was amazing! The food was local and delicious and we had such a fun time this night bonding after our first day in the car. We were all so excited to be on vacation and we all just needed to destress and unwind a bit. Rye definitely was a great kickoff to the food tour. My kids love skipping meals and getting charcuterie trays and cheese plates plus maybe an app or two..that way we can all share and order a few items to try.
This was our first time saying in Aloft and I only have great things to say. It was beautifully decorated, spacious rooms, and the breakfast options were delicious. We picked up ice cream in the lobby, and headed to our room for a movie in bed. Bliss!
The next morning we got into the car early and headed to Nashville. We only have four hours to kill, so we let each person choose a stop. My son wanted to go to Goodwill. Yep, I have a game hunter on my hands and stopping at thrift store this trip was a must. My husband had to have hot chicken, so we headed to Hatties B's (he was not disappointed, it was worth the long line), I wanted to eat at The Southern (mouth watering...hands down best fired chicken salad and oysters ever!), and my daughter wanted to shop. She found a western skirt and matching top that did the trick. This was my third time in Nashiville in the past 5 years, definitely my shortest stop there ever, and it mostly just made me want to get back there soon. Next stop Birmingham.
Up until a week prior to this, we didn't really know were to stay for the night in this city. My brother recommended we go to the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort and Spa and I am so glad he did! We eded up stopping for dinner first at a place in the same town called Front Porch. Seriously super yummy. If you ever find yourself here, do yourself a favor and order the candied bacon bombs. We drove about two minutes up the road and pull up to a castle like building. We booked this hotel on a discount app, but it was definitely one of the top three nicest places we have ever stayed! We had a walk out balcony overlooking the pool and quickly headed down for some swim and hot tub time. The following morning we headed out early to our final stop, Destin, Florida.
Stop back next week for my Destin recap! Did you go away for spring break this year? Have you ever been to any of the above mentioned places? Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today. I hope you make it a great day! xoxo
