Remix: Yellow Clutch

I got this clutch last spring for $39.95 from Shoedazzle. This was an example of money well spent as I have gotten so much use out of it! Here are a few outfits I have worn my yellow clutch with:
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
It gives every outfit just the right pop of color (which I LOVE). I have no plans of retiring it anytime soon, so don't get too excited! ;) (and yes, DIBS has been called on this bag already.)
What do you think? Do you have a solid bright colored clutch that you just can't get enough of?

Vitamins: What I take Everyday

Does anyone else take a crap ton of vitamins? I am not a doctor and feel very strongly that you should consult your doctor as to which vitamins are right for you to take. Here is what a normal week looks like for me: Photobucket
I know it may look nuts, but I'm a health nut! I feel like in order to take care of my family (especially my kids) I need to take the best possible care of myself that I can.
I mean how can you take care of anyone else if you are not taking care of yourself?! Makes sense to me! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! xo

Outfit: Dinner With a Fellow Blogger

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Dress: BCBGMAXAZRIA, Blazer: JC Penny, Shoes: Shoemint, Bag and Necklace: Windsor, Watch: Fossil, Wrist Wrap: C/O Kristin Hassan, Ring: J Good
I met up with one of my favorite mommies and had dinner and drinks on Monday night. I love Kristin. Not only is she a super talented clothing designer, jewelry designer, business woman, blogger, and mom, but she is also just a great friend. I am so glad to have her in my life.
Now lets talk fashion. ;) I think everyone needs to own this t-shirt dress. It's great for layering and hugs the body in all the right spots. It's one of my new favorites. Yes, it's a splurge item at $98, but once you put it on you'll agree it's worth the $$!
What do you think of my braided top knot? I finally spent 10 minutes and not my usual 4 minutes on this style. I usually just twist it and pin it but this time I teased my high pony and wrapped and pinned it to look more like a bun. To finish, I braided a small section and wrapped that around the base. I liked it so much more then what I usually do! Can you tell I haven't washed my hair in 3 days?! lol Me either, which means this hair style is a success!

This is my "eat all you can possible eat" look! lol Stretchy pants, loose top, what's not to like?! And I wouldn't be myself if I didn't add a 6 inch wedge to top it all off.

On a different note, I want to thank everyone who comes here and reads my silly blog everyday. You guys are the best and I am blessed to have such a great bunch of people in my life! I don't think I say it enough but THANK YOU!!! xo

Making My Own (gluten-free) Bread

I want to start making my own bread. I know it's extra work, but I feel like I have better control over what goes in my family's bellies if I start making everything from scratch! As a gift my mother-in-law gave me some bread mix boxes and this amazing bread slicer. Okay, here we go! First attempt on making my own bread:
IT TAKES FOREVER! lol You mix, you cover and let rise for 30 minutes. You transfer to pan, cover, and let rise for 20-40 minutes. Then you bake for 50 minutes. It is not hard, just time consuming. I didn't LOVE this type of bread. The loaf was super heavy and I am a fan of UDI's bread which is light weight, so I want to find a recipe and try again this time from scratch. Do you have any favorite bread recipes? Please share! ;)
The quest continues.... I think I also may want to invest in a bread maker. Any suggestions?

What's in my bag?!

I always love reading every one's "what's in my bag" posts, so I decided it's high time I did my own! I don't generally carry that much around as it bothers my neck (shout out 2 cervical fusions! lol) but these were the items I found when I emptied out my bag:
First off, yayayay, found my lense cover! ;)
-IPhone and hands free cord
-oil absorbing wipes
-comb (for my bangs)
-sun glasses
-Coach coin purse holding lip gloss and perfume
-sample Kate Spade Twirl spray
-Sugar Plum lip balm
-Moisture renew 240 Latino lip stick
-Smash Box lip gloss
-Fossil wallet
-gum and mints
-Stilettos and Diaper Bags business cards

So that's it. Riveting huh?! ;) I generally ditch the big wallet and throw my ID and debit card in my bag when I go out. (why risk losing all your stuff?!) I ALWAYS have the wipes and comb on me as it is a bangs trick I've talked about in a past post. Also, I always make sure I have a few lip color choices on me at all times. A girl can always change her mind you know...
How about you, are you a bottomless bag kinda gal or just the basics like me?

ThirtySomethingFashion Box Service

Have you ever dreamed of having your own personal shopper and stylists?! Me too! ;) Carly over at Thirty Something Fashion is making this dream a reality one box at a time.
Here is a little info about the service: "A customized box filled with clothing and accessories tailored to your needs from my favorite boutiques is shipped directly to your home. This innovative service is perfect for women on the go. I specialize in boutique shopping, avoiding large scale retailers providing you with fun modern clothing that you won't see on everyone. There is a $250 minimum and clothing must be tried on within 48 hours of receipt. Fee: $50 and cost to send back unwanted items"
Okay, lets get started! I told Carly I was looking for a mix of everyday and go out clothing with a boho chic vibe and a few light weight accessories. Here's what came in my box:
I couldn't believe how many items were in my box! I promised to try everything on, and I am so glad I stuck to that promise. There were some items I held up and was like "no way" or ones I thought I'd keep for sure and after trying them on I had different opinions. It's such a great experience having someone else shop for you to see what they think you would wear. Carly is amazing at what she does and my only problem was keeping to budget! I loved pretty much everything she sent! (good problem to have I guess!)
Here is one of my go out looks. I wore this to brunch with the girls on Sunday afternoon:
Dress and Earrings: ThirtySomethingFashion Box Service, Belt: Threadsence, Shoes: Forever 21, Ring and Bracelet: J Good
This dress is amazing! It's flowy and blew around in the wind. I felt very pretty in it (which is key) and had quite a few people stop me to ask where I had gotten it. That's another thing, most of these clothes I wouldn't find around here in the burbs of Chicago. That makes this box service even better as I feel like I won't walk in somewhere and see another gal in my outfit! ;)

The next is a great example of everyday wear:
Cardigan Shrug, Tank, Shorts, and Necklace: ThirtySomethingFashion Box Service, Sunnies: MNG by Mango, Boots: Colin Stuart
I wore this outfit yesterday and when it got real hot, I ditched the cardigan and boots for flip flops and kept going.
I HIGHLY recommend using Carly's box service. She was fast, organized, and a pleasure to work with. All that aside, she just has great taste. What more can you ask for?! I now have a full seasons worth of new clothes and I can't wait to show you more of what I got in my box!

Wall decals

Up until a few months ago my kids shared a room. In our defense our son was in our bed so really is was just the bean's room, but now they both have their own room. I will show you the before and after as they progress, but I wanted to share with you a great way to update a wall without using paint.
I found these adorable wall decals on amazon and decided to go for it. The picture to aid in assembling was the size of the palm of my hand (obviously not ideal), but I think it turned out great!
It took about an hour to assemble, but my daughter loves it. I ask her to point to the flowers, birds, owls, hearts, etc. and she just has so much fun with it. Plus, I think they really bring character to the room. What do you think? Have you ever worked with wall decals?

Lust and Must

I have been LUSTING over these Cole Hann Alisa Oxfords for some time now, but at $178 I knew we were not meant to be. ;) Not to mention they are sold out in my size pretty much everywhere!! Okay, so you got me, I did try to rationalize getting these.
So, what's a girl to do?! Find a must item of course! I found these beautiful Dolce Vita shoes for $79. They are still a neutral color and have that pop of neon under. I think it's a good compromise. Done and done!
I love that I didn't splurge on these shoes. This is not a style shoe that I generally wear (but I have secretly always wanted to try a pair). Now if I don't wear them as much as I think I will, I won't feel as bad about buying them. See how my mind works?! lol
What do you think? Should I have got my lust item or do you love my must item?

Recipe: Foil Baked Fish w/ a Southwestern twist

I saw a recipe over on Designer Bags and Dirty Diapers and it inspired me to try a similar dish. I'm all about using what you have in your kitchen, so I used the concept of her foil baked fish with black beans and corn and put my spin on it. Truth be told I only had corn, black beans, and fish from that recipe but I still wanted to go for the same spicy outcome.

-Fish (I used 1 tuna filet and 1 white fish filet)
-black beans
-red and green peppers
-sea salt
-black pepper

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Pat fish dry and put sea salt and black pepper on both sides to taste. Place fish in foil on top of 1 tap of butter. Layer corn, black beans, red and green peppers, 3 teaspoons salsa and 1/2 lemon squeezed on top of each fish filet.
Cook for 20 minutes.

*They both turned out great, but I liked this recipe better on the white fish. I still want to try the recipe that Natalie posted over on her page, but this is what I had in my refrigerator so I improvised! ;)

Pinterest Hair

I saw this amazing hair idea on Pinterest and I knew I had to try it!
Seemed simple enough, so I gave it a try! I can't tell you how many comments I got on my hair this day. It was SUPER EASY to do and I loved how it turned out!
What do you think? Do you ever try any pinterest ideas (hair or otherwise)?

David McSweeney for State Representative

For those of you who live in the 52 Illionis House District (which includes parts of South Barrington, Barrington, Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Cary, Island Lake, Oak Wood Hills) my uncle David McSweeney is running for State Representative. Here is his bio:
"David McSweeney will be an outstanding representative for the people of the 52nd Illinois House District in the General Assembly. He has the educational background, business experience, work ethic, and commitment to our community to get the job done.

David has deep roots in the north Chicago suburbs. He was born in Park Ridge, and grew up in Long Grove and Barrington. David's parents instilled in him the Midwestern values of integrity and hard work at an early age.

As a college student, David McSweeney completed an accelerated BA/MBA program, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Duke University in 1987. He continued his education and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Duke Fuqua School of Business in 1988.

David McSweeney met his wife, Margaret, in New York City. As newlyweds in New York City, David and Margaret tutored at risk students in Harlem. The couple moved to Illinois, and started their family. David and Margaret are the proud parents of two daughters, Melissa, 18 years old, and Katie, 16 years old.

David's interest in politics began at an early age as a volunteer for the 1980 Reagan campaign. He also interned with the Reagan-Bush campaign in 1984. David McSweeney was elected to the position of Palatine Township Trustee, where he was an advocate for fiscal responsibility and quality government services. He also served on the Finance Committee for former U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald. David has demonstrated his commitment to the Republican Party by serving as a Precinct Captain in Barrington, Palatine and Schaumburg Township. David also has supported candidates on the local, state and federal level.

The community is another priority for the McSweeney family. They are members of the Lutheran Church of the Atonement. Margaret serves on Leadership Advisory Board for W.I.N.G.S. (Women in Need Growing Stronger), an organization which helps homeless women and their children get a new start in life.

David has been a successful businessman. He has worked as an investment banker and currently is a financial consultant. We need more people with business experience in Springfield."

You can check out his website here. Also, click through the links to see his views on:
2) Property Tax Relief (It's just commonsense that property taxes shouldn't go up when property values go down)

If anyone wants to volunteer, please call Drew at 847-507-0561 It's a fun opportunity to experience a political campaign.

Too Great to Pass Up

I recently went shopping at Loft and found pants and jeans on sale for $4.88 (from $69.50)!! SCORE! The only problem was they only had long black jeans left and I am short. Easy fix, have them altered!
The jeans cost $4.88 and $14 to have them cut and re hemmed for a total of $18.88. Still not a bad price for cute black jeans!

Do you ever have clothes altered to fit you? I do, actually very often. Can't wait to wear my new black jeans with flats! ;)
